View prescriptions in the NHS App

Using the NHS App for Prescriptions

The NHS App makes it easy to manage your prescriptions in one place. You can:

  • View all your current prescriptions
  • Order repeat prescriptions quickly
  • See who prescribed each item
  • Check whether it’s a repeat or one-off prescription
  • Generate a barcode to collect your medication at a pharmacy (if you don’t have a nominated one)

This gives you more control and visibility over your medication—helping you stay informed and involved in your healthcare.

No Nominated Pharmacy? No Problem

If you haven’t chosen a pharmacy, the NHS App can generate a prescription barcode.
Just show this barcode to a pharmacy of your choice—they’ll be able to dispense your medication without needing a paper prescription.

How to access digital prescriptions through the NHS App

You will be able to see digital prescriptions in the NHS App by following these steps:

1. Tap your health on the bottom of the App and select view and manage prescriptions.

2. Select your approved prescriptions

3. Select the prescription you want to view. If you do not have a nominated pharmacy you can generate a prescription barcode for collection.

Non-urgent advice: When Your Prescription May Not Show in the App

Sometimes, you might not see a prescription in the app. This could happen if:

• The prescription is set to be available at a future date
• It’s been cancelled
• It was issued more than 6 months ago
• It was prescribed during a hospital stay and dispensed there
• Your pharmacy manages your medication on your behalf (e.g. regular repeat ordering)

If you’re unsure, speak to your GP practice or pharmacy team for support.
