πŸš«πŸ’Š Changes to How We Handle Urine Samples

Posted on:

From Monday 14th July, we are changing how we process urine samples at the practice.

What’s Changing:

  • All urine samples will now be sent to the lab for testing before any antibiotics are issued.
  • You will not be contacted on the day you hand in your sample.
  • You will only be contacted if your results show an infection that requires treatment.

Why the Change?

  • Many people are prescribed antibiotics when they don’t actually have an infection.
  • Some infections are resistant to common antibiotics. Prescribing without test results can make treatment less effective.
  • Waiting for test results helps us ensure you get the right treatment, only when it’s needed.

This is part of our commitment to safer, more effective care and to tackle antibiotic resistance.

If You Feel You Can’t Wait:

Women aged 16–64 with symptoms of a urine infection may be eligible for the Pharmacy First service. Please ask our reception team for more information.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
